Imperia by Dhaba Indian Wedding DJ Guide (Somerset, NJ)

Table of Contents

Imperia by Dhaba on Easton Avenue in Somerset, NJ is one of Central Jersey’s best-known banquet halls for South Asian weddings. It has three ballrooms, a waterfall garden with a marble gazebo, a grand staircase with rain curtains, and an in-house kitchen that cooks South Asian food, so a full wedding weekend can stay under one roof. This guide covers what to know about the venue and how we plan music, sound and production there.

Imperia by Dhaba at a glance

  • Address: 1714 Easton Avenue, Somerset, NJ 08873
  • The Cristal Ballroom: the largest room, about 7,600 sq ft and seating up to 550 for dinner, with crystal chandeliers and windows looking out on the terrace garden
  • The Majestica and The Regalia: two more ballrooms of about 5,000 sq ft each, which can be split for smaller events. The Majestica’s accordion windows open onto a private stone patio and the waterfall garden
  • Ceremonies: outdoors on the Majestica patio or in the marble gazebo garden, with indoor options too
  • Indian weddings: the venue lists sangeet, haldi, baraat, the traditional ceremony and the reception. Its in-house catering covers South Asian cuisine, and preferred Indian caterers are also permitted. Each ballroom has its own bridal suite

Planning the baraat at Imperia

The baraat sets the energy for the whole day, so we plan the route before the wedding. We bring a mobile DJ rig, or a dhol-and-DJ combo, to the starting point and move with the procession up to the milni.

  • Agree on the route with the venue. Confirm where the groom’s side gathers, where the baraat ends and where the bride’s family waits. Twenty to thirty minutes of dancing is a good target.
  • Plan a rain option. Ask the venue for a covered or indoor backup, and we’ll plan sound for both.
  • Pick the songs early. Start with our baraat song list and our baraat entrance ideas for New Jersey weddings.

Ceremony sound in the garden or ballroom

A mandap by the marble gazebo and waterfall looks stunning, but running water and open air make it harder for guests to hear the pandit. We use discreet speakers and wireless mics for the officiant and the family, and keep soft instrumental music under the rituals. If the ceremony moves indoors, we set up in the ballroom instead. Our mandap lighting ideas work in either space.

Sangeet and haldi in the smaller rooms

Because the Majestica and Regalia can be divided, Imperia works well for the smaller events around the wedding. For a sangeet we plan the family performances on a cue list with the MC, collect every track ahead of time, and open the dance floor once the performances end. For a haldi or mehndi we keep it lighter, with acoustic Bollywood and folk songs at a volume where people can still talk. Our sangeet entertainment ideas have more on this.

The reception in the Cristal Ballroom

The Cristal is the room for a big reception. With hundreds of guests, the production needs careful planning so every table hears and sees what’s happening. Here’s what we plan for:

  • Grand entrances: down the grand staircase or into the ballroom, timed with the MC, lighting cues and, if you like, cold sparklers, CO2 or low fog.
  • Sound coverage: speakers placed so the back tables hear the speeches clearly, without the dance floor overpowering the room.
  • Visuals: a video wall beside the stage for slideshows, a live camera feed and your monogram.
  • The open floor: Bollywood, Bhangra, hip hop and top 40, read off the crowd so every generation keeps dancing.

A custom dance floor wrap or monogram light adds a personal touch in any of the three ballrooms.
