The Palace at Somerset Park Indian Wedding DJ Guide (Somerset, NJ)

Table of Contents

The Palace at Somerset Park on Davidson Avenue in Somerset, NJ is one of the biggest names in New Jersey weddings, and a favorite for large South Asian celebrations. It’s a 72,000 sq ft venue built specifically for weddings, set on 30 acres, with lawns for the baraat and an outdoor mandap, a grand staircase, and ballrooms big enough for a full stage and dance floor. This guide covers what to know about the property and how we plan music, sound and production there.

The Palace at Somerset Park at a glance

  • Address: 333 Davidson Avenue, Somerset, NJ 08873
  • Two private venues in one: the property is split into an East and a West side, each with its own foyer, ballroom, garden, bridal suite and parking, so two weddings can run at once without crossing paths
  • Guest count: the venue hosts weddings from about 125 to 600 guests
  • Ballrooms: the East Ballroom is the larger room, about 5,800 sq ft and seating around 450 for dinner. The West Ballroom seats around 270, and the terraces add outdoor space
  • Ceremonies: outdoor ceremonies on the grounds and gardens, or indoors in the ballrooms

Guest counts and room details come from The Palace’s website and its published floor plan. Confirm the details for your date with their sales team.

Planning the baraat at The Palace

The long, tree-lined drive and lawns give the baraat plenty of room. We set up a mobile DJ rig, or a dhol-and-DJ combo, at the starting point and move with the procession all the way to the milni.

  • Walk the route with the venue. Agree on where the baraat starts and ends, and where the bride’s family will wait. Twenty to thirty minutes of dancing is a good target.
  • Ask about horses and vehicles. If you want a ghodi, a vintage car or another entrance, clear it with The Palace ahead of time.
  • Plan a rain option, and we’ll plan sound for both.
  • Pick the songs early. Start with our baraat song list and our baraat entrance ideas for New Jersey weddings.

Mandap sound on the lawn or indoors

An outdoor mandap on The Palace’s lawns is beautiful, but open air carries sound away fast. We use discreet speakers and wireless mics for the pandit and the family so every guest can follow the ceremony, with soft instrumental music under the rituals. If the ceremony moves into a ballroom, the high ceilings leave room for a tall mandap, and we set up there instead. See our mandap lighting ideas for either space.

The reception in the ballroom

The Palace’s ballrooms have room for a stage, a dance floor and a buffet at once. With a big guest list, we plan the production so every table hears and sees what’s happening:

  • Grand entrances: down the grand staircase or into the ballroom, timed with the MC, lighting cues and, if you like, cold sparklers, CO2 or low fog.
  • Sound coverage: speakers placed so the back tables hear the speeches clearly, without the dance floor overpowering the room.
  • Family performances: every track collected ahead of time and run on a cue list with the MC, so there’s no dead air between acts.
  • Visuals: a video wall beside the stage for slideshows, a live camera feed and your monogram.
  • The open floor: Bollywood, Bhangra, hip hop and top 40, read off the crowd so every generation stays on the floor.

A custom dance floor wrap or monogram light makes the room feel like yours.

A full wedding weekend at The Palace

Many families hold the sangeet on Friday evening and the wedding on Saturday, with the baraat and ceremony in the morning and the reception that night. Each event needs a different mood. One team covers the whole weekend, so the timeline and the music stay consistent from the first performance to the last song. Our sangeet entertainment ideas can help you plan Friday night.

Why couples book DNA Events for The Palace

We’ve played The Palace many times. We know both sides of the property, the load-in and the staff, so setup is smooth and your timeline stays on track. DJ, MC, lighting, dance floors, effects, video walls and photo booths all come from one company, so you have fewer vendors to manage. Comparing Somerset venues?
